Can turtles live together?

Housing turtles together can be a rewarding and enriching part of keeping turtles. While we don’t recommend keeping only two turtles together, we have noticed that groups of three or more tend to be more active and engaged with their environment. This is especially true of hatchlings who might be encouraged to eat and bask in the company of others (though tail nipping is common if not fed daily).

It is important to note that turtles do not always cohabitate peacefully. Always keep an enclosure on hand in the event that a turtle becomes too aggressive for it’s tank mates.

*Mixing species is not typically recommended though it may be done successfully with captive bred species of similar size, temperament, and care requirements.
